“Beauty is how you feel inside, and it reflects in your eyes.” (Sophia Loren)

Eyes are frequently the first impression of a person. They are also regarded as the mirror of the soul and a reflection of your well-being.
Open and visible eyes are associated with youth and alertness. Droop of the eyebrows and droop of the upper eyelid skin make a person appear tired. Opening the eyes and making them more visible gives a person a more vibrant and dynamic appearance.

With age, our eyebrows descend into a lower position and this creates extra skin, mostly in the outer eyelids. The eyelid skin first develops fine wrinkles, which then become more noticeable. In the upper eyelid, this extra skin first hides the natural eyelid crease and then starts covering the upper eyelashes. Eye makeup becomes more difficult to apply and tends to smear. Eventually this extra skin can fold over the upper eyelid margin and hide part of the eye. This actually can block vision in some people. All of these changes in the upper eyelid create the impression of a smaller, crowded eye.
Wrinkles and extra skin of the lower eyelid are caused by the loss of elasticity of the supporting structures. This eventually can create noticeable folds at the junction of the lower eyelid and cheek. These are called festoons. Furthermore, fat pads contained in compartments of the upper and lower eyelids become more noticeable. This is a result of weakening of the membrane which holds them against the eye. These fat pads may be responsible for the dark circles under the eyes.
A significant loss of support can lead to ptosis (droop) in the upper eyelid. The eyelid margin rests in a lower position and partially blocks vision. This can occur on one side only, making the eyes appear uneven. This loss of support in the lower eyelids can result in a downward and outward droop of the eyelid. This can result in dryness and irritation of the eye.
Frequently, contact lens wearers may develop loss of eyelid support sooner.

These changes create the impression of a tired person with a less dynamic personality. Frequently people will be asked if they did not sleep well or are not feeling well.

These can be corrected with a number of different procedures. Slight elevation of the outside of the eyebrow can be accomplished by a properly performed Botox treatment. With elevation of the brows, the extra skin of the outside of the upper eyelid is less noticeable. This option works best if you have only minor amount of extra skin.
Brow lifts can raise the brow more permanently and effectively. Traditionally, brow lifts or forehead lifts were performed through an incision in the forehead at or just above the hairline. Endoscopic brow lifts can be performed through very small incisions.

Blepharoplasty removes the extra skin and fatpads of the upper and lower eyelid. Upper or lower eyelids can be treated separately. Postoperatively some bruising and swelling is noted, but usually resolves quickly. Also the incisions soon are barely visible.
Blepharoplasty achieve a long-lasting, noticeable but very subtle result. Your appearance becomes more refreshed and less tired. Frequently friends and colleagues will complement you on appearing rested and happier.
The cost of blepharoplasty is reasonable and the short recovery allows this procedure to be coordinated, even with a busy schedule.
